It all started innocently enough. We were at the Champlain Mall to do a little shopping and Marie wanted to stop to look at some rings...she wanted to make sure I had good taste.

I knew exactly what I wanted. After a few stores, I couldn't find what I was looking for. We stopped at Polar Ice on our way out and there it was...the perfect ring. Not too big, solitaire and BEAUTIFUL. I had to look at it. It was at that point that the sales rep mentionned the sale that was going on...80%!!! It was an offer I couldn't miss. I had a problem though, my girlfriend heard the same thing. How was I going to get her off the glaringly obvious scent?

1.) Tell her to leave...really! I told her to go away (smooth Simon, real smooth). So she left...looking very flustered.

2.) Get the info on the sale from the sales rep. When does the sale end? And of course I had to negotiate the price down a little...which I did!

3.) Call my best friend to drop the bomb. Little did I know my girlfriend called this same friend at the same time thinking she had a made a HUGE mistake. Talked it over with him and decided to go get the ring that same week with him.

4.) Convince girlfriend I wasn't really interested in getting the ring now. Lucky for me she's pretty gullible. All I had to do was tell her that I was getting information on their sales cycle to figure out when I could get the ring next.

5.) Get the ring.

6.) Hide the ring. I had a Scarredly Squirrel puppet (because I'm a teacher of course). Marie would never look inside the puppet!

7.) Figure out how to ask her to marry me. This one was not so easy. Ideally I had wanted to do it at Disney World. However, the government decided I owed them money so there went that plan. After a few weeks of trying to figure out how to do it I had a plan. If we can't go to Disney, I will bring Disney to us.

8.) Plan the perfect evening. Spent a few days preparing a tower at school. Then June 1, 2012 came. It was time. After school that day I spent the evening preparing the apartment. Watch the video here of what my work ended up looking like.

9.) Once Marie came home it was time to walk her through our home and lead up to asking the big question. Here's the big shocker...she said YES!

And now on to planning the wedding!
